The importance of details in interior design

References

Interior design is an art that combines functionality with aesthetics in order to create a space fully adapted to the needs and tastes of its users. There are certain elements, often unnoticeable at first glance, which nevertheless play a key role, influencing the final perception and character of the rooms. Details - these are what give interiors their unique character and ‘that thing’ that makes us feel comfortable in a home.

What are details?

They are all the little elements that bring a harmonious whole together. They can be decorative doorknobs, colourful vases brought back from holidays, finely crafted balustrades or even the way the morning sun streams through the bedroom window, casting an original shadow on the walls, shaped by the leaves of the tree growing next to the house. Although they are often neglected in the space planning process, the importance of details is invaluable - they emphasise an interior's individual style and add depth. Details can also have a big impact on our mood and well-being. Colours, textures and shapes can influence how we perceive the surrounding space.

In different interior styles, details have different functions. In Scandinavian style, they need to be minimalist and functional, with their own place and purpose. In the industrial style, raw elements and untreated surfaces, however, add authenticity and character to interiors. The boho style, on the other hand, loves an abundance of colours and patterns that create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Details in interior design - how to exploit their potential?

When composing details for your interior, it is worth following a few rules. Foremost, they should be consistent with the overall style of the room. It is also important not to overdo it - too many small elements can overwhelm the space and introduce chaos. In small rooms, it is worth placing subtle accents, which optically enlarge the interior.

It is worth looking at the interior design in order to make full use of elements that are already there or that require a little creativity in order to become an original, unusual solution. These may include:

  • stairs - exquisitely finished, made of high quality materials with interesting designs, complemented by an elegant glass, wooden or metal balustrade,
  • doors - this is an element present in every home, and it is worth exploiting its potential through an appropriate choice of material, colour, finish, glazing, decorations or an interesting handle,
  • elements preserved from the original interior furnishings - if you are renovating an old house, it is worth considering whether leaving a beautiful wooden parquet floor, raw beams or original stucco work will not be just the way to preserve the unique, individual character,
  • the materials used to create the individual elements - furniture, countertops, wall cladding or flooring can be made from materials with interesting patterns and colours. Unusual combinations or unconventional effects - these will certainly be eye-catching details! The wide range of decors from Architype will be ideal for this task: quartz surface, large ceramic slabs and acrylic solid surface.

Details are an element of interior design that determines the final character and perception of a space. It is worth paying attention to them and choosing deliberately. Anyone who has ever laid eyes on subtle accents in an interior design knows that they are crucial to whether a room delights or goes unnoticed.
