Less is more - minimalist style in interiors

References

In a world full of excess and constant rush, minimalism in interior design becomes the answer to the desire for harmony and tranquillity. It is a style that draws its strength from simplicity and order, providing a space free from chaos and unnecessary possessions. Minimalist interiors reflect modern needs - clarity, functionality and the ability to disconnect from the clutter of everyday stimuli. By keeping decoration and furniture to an absolute minimum, a minimalist-style home becomes a place to breathe, to relax. It is the complete opposite of the trends that were in place twenty to twenty-five years ago, when there was a lot to do in interiors. Intense colours (often as a theme, not as an accent!), a variety of textures, a wealth of different patterns, heavy furniture, a fondness for large leather sofas and crystal in massive display cabinets, accompanied by numerous holiday souvenirs - this is how we lived at the beginning of the first decade of the 21st century. So what does the opposite of the interiors of that period look like?

Minimalist style - characteristics

The minimalist style, as the name suggests, involves furnishing a home with as few elements as possible. The principles of minimalism are based on the reduction of everything that is unnecessary in favour of well thought-out elements that fulfil a specific function and at the same time fit into the aesthetics of the interior. There are no unnecessary decorations or random accessories. Tidiness plays a key role - everything is carefully hidden in closed cabinets, and tables, dressers, windowsills or kitchen worktops are left almost empty, apart from a few essential items.

Minimalist style - interior colours

The colour scheme in minimalism is based on neutral, muted colours that create a consistent and timeless base. White, grey, beige and black are the dominant shades that give the interior an elegant feel and are also a versatile background for the rest of the design elements. Light colours, such as white or beige, optically enlarge the space, while darker accents, such as graphite or black, add depth and character to the interior. However, if other colours do appear, it is usually in the form of subtle details - in accessories or individual pieces of furniture.

Minimalist style - materials used

A minimalist interior must be made of durable, robust and aesthetically pleasing materials. There will be no excess of furniture or ornamentation to distract from any imperfections. In minimalism, it is the quality and finish of the surfaces that play a key role - an almost empty kitchen worktop, a smooth wall with a fine texture or an interesting floor finish can be decorative in themselves. Take advantage of the warmth and natural character of wood, the lightness of glass, the austerity of steel or the robustness and unconventionality of natural stone finishes such as quartz surface, large ceramic slabs or acrylic solid surface.

Minimalist style - advantages

Minimalism is not only about aesthetics, but also a way of simplifying everyday life. One of its biggest advantages is neatness - reducing the number of objects makes it easier to stay clean and organised. The lack of excess items outside of closed cabinets makes cleaning take much less time. Bright colours and open layouts make interiors appear larger and tidier, even in smaller flats, which promotes a sense of spaciousness. Thanks to the high quality of the materials and the thoughtful selection of elements, the interiors are durable, timeless and versatile - whenever you want to change their style, you simply add specific accessories, without the need for advanced renovation work. Due to the lack of unnecessary visual stimuli, minimalist spaces are conducive to tranquillity, relaxation and stress reduction. It's also an eco-friendly style - focusing on quality rather than quantity leads to more conscious shopping choices and reduced waste production.

Interiors decorated in a minimalist style are functional and timeless. Minimalism is a practical solution for anyone who values order and wants a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's a style that doesn't impose itself with superfluous details, but subtly emphasises the beauty of thoughtful simplicity.
