Large glazing, great effect – why are we so keen on panoramic windows?

References

At a time when we spend most of our day indoors, access to natural light is becoming one of the most desirable elements of comfort in our lives. It is not without reason that large glazing is now synonymous with luxury – not only does it literally open up the interior to the outside world, but it also affects our well-being, concentration and circadian rhythm. When properly designed, they fill rooms with soft daylight that softens contours, emphasises colours, brings out textures and changes the perception of space depending on the time of day. An interior with access to plenty of light always seems larger, lighter and more ‘breathable’ – which is why it is so desirable for people decorating their homes.

Learn more about the advantages of panoramic windows:

  • More natural light – panoramic windows let in maximum daylight, which improves living comfort, has a positive effect on mood and reduces the need for artificial lighting.
  • Better well-being – exposure to natural light regulates the circadian rhythm, relaxes, improves concentration and promotes regeneration.
  • A view that acts as decoration – the landscape behind the glass can become a fully-fledged element of the interior design. The greenery of the garden, the line of trees or the sky above the city – this is a background that does not need to be arranged and can look different every day.
  • A modern interior – large glazing is a hallmark of contemporary architecture. It gives the interior lightness, space and elegance.
  • A sense of space – even in compact houses or flats, floor-to-ceiling windows visually enlarge the space and open it up to the surroundings.
  • Energy efficiency – properly designed glazing supports passive heating of the interior in winter, while modern glazing reduces overheating in summer.
  • Direct connection to the terrace or garden – large patio doors with low thresholds seamlessly connect the interior with the exterior of the house, which will be particularly appreciated by those who like to spend time close to nature.
  • Increased property value – bright, spacious interiors are one of the most important advantages when buying a house or flat today.

Large windows and finishing materials

Interiors with large glazing offer enormous design possibilities, but at the same time require a conscious approach to the selection of finishing materials. Natural light has a huge impact on the way we perceive space – it brings out colour nuances, emphasises surface textures and changes the perception of the interior depending on the time of day. That is why the materials used in such areas should not only look good when exposed, but also retain their appearance and properties for a long time.

Aesthetics is one thing, but functionality is also important. In living rooms with panoramic windows, there is often a problem of surface fading or discolouration, especially on elements exposed to direct light. In such cases, durable materials that are resistant to UV radiation and high temperatures, such as large ceramic slabs Keralini or HPL Puricelli laminate, are the best choice. Both types of finishes offer a wide variety of decors – from subtle, natural tones to patterns with distinctive grain, to variants with embedded particles that shimmer delicately in changing light.

What is more, both large ceramic slabs and HPL can be used not only indoors, but also outdoors – on facades, balconies or terraces, blurring the boundaries between these areas. It is also an opportunity to play with colour and texture – with plenty of light, you can confidently choose darker, more expressive decors, which in a place with insufficient light could visually reduce the space.

Large windows are impressive – both from the inside and outside. However, it is worth ensuring that they are surrounded by materials that not only emphasise the architectural qualities of the interior, but also work well in everyday use and withstand the presence of large amounts of natural light.
